Frequently Asked Questions
A triathlon is a multi-sport race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running, completed in that order. Participants must complete each segment in sequence with transitions in between.
The distances for each race are:
- Sprint: 750m swim, 20km (12.4 miles) bike, 5km (3.1 miles) run
- Olympic: 1.5km swim, 40km (24.9 miles) bike, 10km (6.2 miles) run
- Half-Ironman: 1.9km swim, 90km (55.9 miles) bike, 21.1km (13.1 miles) run
- Ironman: 3.8km swim, 180km (111.8 miles) bike, 42.2km (26.2 miles) run
No experience is necessary, but we recommend starting with a Sprint distance if you’re new to the sport.
Essential gear includes a swimsuit or tri-suit, goggles, a bike (and helmet), and running shoes. Additional options include a wetsuit, cycling shoes, and sunglasses.
Registration is available on our website. Simply fill out the registration form, pay the fee, and you’re in!
The fee typically includes race entry, race shirt, a timing chip, race bib, aid stations along the course, a finishers medal, drinks/food at finish line and a post-race celebration.
Age restrictions vary by race, but generally, you must be at least 18 to participate in adult races. Tri Peaks Epic Events also has a “kid’s triathlon” in conjunction with their RIGBY LAKE RUMBLE TRIATHLON.
We recommend at least 8-12 weeks of training for beginners, focusing on swimming, cycling, and running. You should train all three disciplines to prepare for race day.
While many athletes train independently using online resources or local groups, working with a coach can help you refine your technique and improve performance.
Practice in open water or take swim lessons if needed. Many triathlons allow wetsuits for buoyancy, which can make swimming easier.
Tri Peaks Epic Events also allows either 2 or 3 person TEAMS. Have someone on your team do the portion you do not feel comfortable doing!
Bring your race bib, timing chip, swimsuit or tri-suit, goggles, bike, helmet, running shoes, and any nutrition you plan to consume during the race. Checkout the Tri Peaks Epic Events TRIATHLON CHECKLIST posted on our website for a complete list.
The transition area is where you’ll switch from swimming to biking (T1) and biking to running (T2). Set up your gear here before the race starts.
Each participant is issued a timing chip that tracks their time for each segment of the race. Results will include split times for swimming, cycling, running, and transitions.
If you’re unable to complete a segment for any reason, our race officials will assist you. Policies vary, but safety is our primary concern.
Yes, but for the best performance, we recommend using a road bike or triathlon bike. Electric bikes are not allowed in any triathlon.
Drafting is typically prohibited in most races. Check the event rules for specific regulations. Tri Peaks Epic Events has multiple race officials on the course to make sure this does not happen.
We monitor the weather and prioritize safety. In extreme conditions, races may be delayed, altered, or canceled. We’ll communicate any changes with participants ahead of time.
Carry a basic repair kit (spare tire, pump, etc.) and know how to handle simple bike issues. Event staff will provide assistance if needed. Tri Peaks Epic Events has a bike technician at most of the events are available prior to and during the race.
Results will be posted on the website shortly after the race, and you can check your individual results by entering your race number.
If you need to stop during the race, please notify a race official. We’ll make sure you’re safely assisted off the course.
Refund policies vary depending on the event. Please review the race’s terms and conditions for specific refund and deferral policies. Please contact TRI PEAKS EPIC EVENTS for all questions on deferring to another race. NO REFUNDS.
You can handle this through the registration portal ($10 fee). If you are unable to complete this, please contact TRI PEAKS EPIC EVENTS.
Focus on areas where you feel less confident, whether it’s swimming, cycling, or running. Consistent training and a good recovery routine will help you improve with each race.
Tri Peaks Epic Events has multiple trainings prior to each race. Watch our Facebook & Instagram pages prior to each race.
Course maps are posted on our website. A course map will also be included in your TRI PEAKS EPIC EVENTS race packet. As there are occasional last minute changes due to road construction, be sure to get to the race early for the race meeting prior to the event.
Stick around. Both trophies and medals will be given out to winners in all of the categories. There will also be a special award given out at each event called the MICHAEL HAYES INSPIRATIONAL AWARD. Each participant who completes the race will be given a finisher medal as they cross the finish line. Tri Peaks Epic Events also provides chocolate milk, ice waters, fruits and nutrition bars. Be sure to check out all of our vendors at the finish line and the products they have to offer triathletes. We also give away free swag and prizes.
